The
Seven Steps to Special Needs Adoption
- Contact Adoption Resources
of Wisconsin at 800-762-8063 and receive more information on the adoption process as well as assistance in locating an adoption agency.
- Attend an Adoption
Information Meeting to learn more about the children
in foster care who need families and details about the adoption study
process.
- Attend training classes
to help you learn about the challenges and joys of adoption. You will
also have a damily building meeting with a permanency consultant.
- Submit an application
to adopt.
- An evaluation of your
family's ability to parent a child with behavioral, emotional or physical
needs will be completed. In Wisconsin, this evaluation process is called a Resource
Family Assessment (RFA).
- If you successfully
complete the RFA, your family will be approved for adoption and will
receive a foster care license.
- Matching of the child
in your family by the agency will occur. Following placement, you
will then have a court hearing, after a period of time, and the child will be legally yours.
